The Kentuckiana Chapter of Safari Club International (SCI) is one of over 140 worldwide chapters who lead the way in defending the freedom to hunt and fish, while promoting sustainable-use wildlife conservation worldwide.
We are proud that section 255A of the Kentucky Constitution provides,
“The citizens of Kentucky have the personal right to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife, using traditional methods, subject only to statutes enacted by the Legislature, and to administrative regulations adopted by the designated state agency to promote wildlife conservation and management and to preserve the future of hunting and fishing. Public hunting and fishing shall be a preferred means of managing and controlling wildlife.”
That constitutional right must still be defended. As such, the Kentuckiana Chapter of SCI started our Legislative Action Committee in 2019 to ensure those rights are never infringed upon.
The defense is a year-round effort working with the Department of Fish and Wildlife Commission, the leadership of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, other Wildlife Conservation Charities in the Commonwealth, the Sportsmen’s Clubs, the Rod & Gun Clubs, and the individual citizens who pursue fish and game in the Commonwealth.
The most important and serious work is done annually with our legislators when they are in session through the first quarter of the year. Every year there are standout legislators who exhibit the honorable service and high ideals of statesmanship in the prosecution of their duties as Senators and Representatives in our legislature.
We want to take the opportunity to recognize your work to further that mission as it relates to fish and wildlife legislation. We can count on you as outstanding leaders to take our meetings, answer our calls, listen to our issues, and deal with us in an ethical way as we prosecute the defense of our constitutional rights.
This year’s Honor Roll includes:
Speaker of the House David Givens
Speaker Pro Tempore David Meade
Majority Whip Representative Jason Nemes
Senator Gary Boswell
Senator Aaron Reed
Representative DJ Johnson
Representative Jim Gooch Jr.
Representative Dan Fister
Representative Vanessa Grossl
Representative Kim Banta
Representative Matthew Lehman
Representative Savannah Maddox
Representative Mitch Whitaker
Representative Jennifer Decker
We look forward to working with all one hundred and thirty-eight legislators in both chambers during the interim to shape the most important issues before they gavel back into session in January 2027. It is our sincere hope that this list grows exponentially. We remain true to our motto, “First for Hunters!”
