Who We Are

The Kentuckiana Chapter of Safari Club International (KYSCI) is a regional chapter member of Safari Club International (SCI). We are a not-for-profit organization of hunters whose primary missions are to protect the freedom to hunt and to promote wildlife conservation. Our mission here in the Commonwealth is the same as SCI’s global mission, we are simply focused on what goes on here at home.

KYSCI founded Kentucky Hunters for the Hungry (KHFH) with the assistance of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources in 1990. We are extremely proud of having helped grow KHFH into a statewide program and an outstanding standalone 501c3 charity. While KYSCI is no longer directly involved in the management and operations of KHFH, we dedicate a portion of the money we raise annually to KHFH. In 2024 KHFH processed 3,311 donated deer, resulting in 140,028 pounds of venison, which equated to 560,411 meal servings. Over the last 25 years KHFH has processed 35,547.5 donated deer resulting in a whopping 6,454,932 meal servings. You can learn more at this link, “KHFH.”

KYSCI is absolutely dedicated to the R3 program and the lion’s share of our annual fundraising is used to support youth programs, shooting sports, and the National Archery in the Schools Program. We currently support, “The Farm Team” which is a youth competitive clays team based out of New Albany, Indiana and, “The Fern Creek Clay Crushers” which is a youth competitive clays team out of Louisville, Kentucky.

SCI's 50,000 members and over 160 chapters in the US and around the world are passionate about hunting and about wildlife conservation. Hunters take pride in carrying on the ancient traditions and practices of the hunt. Hunting is part of human nature and it is what enabled humans to feed ourselves, defend ourselves from danger, form societies and develop art such as the cave paintings tens of thousands of years old that depict hunting because it was essential to the survival and growth of humankind.

People hunt for many reasons. For most hunters, it is a tradition handed down through their families. For all hunters, it is an unparalleled way of participating in the real nature of life in the world, being self-sufficient and providing natural food for their families, friends and communities. All hunters are keenly aware of the natural world and the requirements of land and water that make it vibrant and that support a wide variety of wildlife. The hunter-members of SCI support legal and ethical hunting based on the concepts of science based sustainable use.

Hunters continue to support the revolution in wildlife management in the USA started by Theodore Roosevelt and his fellow sportsmen that has brought species such as white-tailed deer, wild turkeys and elk back from the brink of extinction to plentitude. Hunters willingly pay a tax on sporting goods in the US that provides billions of dollars of support to wildlife management and conservation. On a global scale, hunters support the concepts of sustainable use and community-based natural resource management that conserve iconic species such as the lion, elephants, rhinoceros, leopards and cheetahs.

SCI is headquartered in Washington, D.C. in the USA and operates in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Europe and elsewhere around the world. From its headquarters, SCI educates policy-makers, regulators and the public globally on the role of hunting in society and the economy. Through its chapters, SCI raises millions of dollars for local conservation, education and humanitarian activities. In conjunction with its sister organization, the SCI Foundation, SCI provides on-the-ground conservation and anti-poaching funding.

On Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., the Safari Club International Hunters’ Embassy is a nexus for the strategic defense of hunting and sustainable-use wildlife conservation. It is home to SCI’s International, Federal, and State & Local government advocacy efforts, as well as litigation, conservation and communications operations. You can learn more at this link, “Hunter’s Embassy.

SCI carries out its business activities through its Fundraising, Membership and Chapter Operations Center in San Antonio, Texas. You can learn more about SCI at this link, “First for Hunters!”.
